The Henry Milker
Before getting the Henry Milker we were milking by hand, which was fine but it took forever and it started making my hands hurt, plus we would have to double strain the milk at least three times before it was drinkable. That equaled a lot of work. Oh, and did I mention that whenever the girls would get tired of standing, run out of grain or both, they'd start dancing around on the stand? That was no fun; we'd have to make sure they didn't knock the bucket over or step in it while still trying to milk.
Our staining method pre Henry Milker
But then we found the Henry Milker! Not only did it save a lot of time but it saved my hands also. And, we didn't have to worry if the girls started doing their dance because there was no bucket to knock over or step in!
That's me sitting and milking May, as you can see, there are two teat cups with tubes that are hooked up to red plastic tops. Those tops screw onto 2 quart jars. We washed her teats real well first, and then got the milk started, after that, all we had to do was hook her up and start pumping. The suction did all the work and milk flowed straight into the jars. No bucket, no straining, no hurting hands. Just fresh milk ready to be put into the refrigerator. We pulled a gallon off her that day. Go May!

James's turn to milk May. She was being contrary and kept wanting to kick the cup off. But how easy to hold her steady when you aren't milking by hand!
Needless to say, we love our Henry Milker! It's so easy.
